About

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies…The man who never reads lives only one.”
George R.R. Martin

I married an English teacher. We both did. On holidays you will find us with pages splayed in cafes or on beach towels. Rainy days are best spent meandering through book shops and libraries, treasure-hunters discovering bounty. We share a love of stories…which is why we started this blog.

As Muriel Rukeyser once wrote, “The world is made up of stories, not atoms.” And with each story you read you live another life, in another world, at another time. We live again and again through books, seeing the world through new eyes each time, understanding, learning. A good book reflects another piece of the universe, acting as a prism refracting the spectrum of the human experience; it enthrals and educates, entrances and transforms.

So, because we believe in the power of narrative to make us all more compassionate, wise and interesting people, every time we read a book, we write a brief review for you here. You can browse the blog, search using the toolbar at the bottom of each page or use the book list, which is organised by genre. Either way – we hope you live a thousand remarkable lives and see the world afresh with each one.

Happy page-turning.
